Tripoli, 18 September 2014:

A rocket has hit a storage tank at the Zawia refinery, causing the El Sharara . . .[restrict]oil field, which feeds it, to shut down.

According to the National Oil Corporation (NOC) no one knows who is responsible for the rocket, but an investigation is underway. The closure of El Sharara, said NOC would bring down the nation’s production to around 670,000 barrels per day based on a production of 870,000 bpd..

Ibrahim El-Awami, head of the inspection and measurement department at the NOC, said that the Zawia refinery was still in operation but would have to shut down once its feedstock reserves were used up. Normally the 120,000 bpd refinery supplies Tripoli and western Libya with fuel. [/restrict]
