The Warshefana Crisis Committee is urging those displaced by the fighting in the district to return . . .[restrict]to their homes, beginning with residents of Aziziya – despite the fact that heavy clashes continue in the wider area.
Aziziya itself was taken by Libya Dawn forces from Zawia, Janzour and Gharian last week.
Some resident are already reported to have started returning.
The committee has suggested that looting and destruction of personal property is more likely to be prevented if residents return and occupy their homes.
The committee asked sheikhs and imams to help convince people that they should return, and also asked for the Red Crescent and the ICRC to assist people in returning.
Furthermore, the committee urged Warshefana businessmen to communicate with the local Shoura Council, Warshefana elders, members of the House of Representatives and others in authority about the provision of assistance for those who have been displaced and about a more permanent solution to the crisis.
Yesterday Libya Dawn forces again attacked Warshefana areas with heavy artillery fire. Aziziya civil society organisations have condemned the continuing clashes as “gross violations of human rights”. [/restrict]
