Benghazi, 24 September 2014:
The Ministry of Health in Tripoli has condemned the abduction of an Ukranian anaesthetist and . . .[restrict]his wife in Bengahzi. The couple, who have been named as Sergei and Nataliya Bugatchev, disappeared last Thursday and are believed to have been seized by militants. He works for the Hawari hospital.
According to the hospital, the doctor remained in Benghazi throughout the revolution, working for all who needed medical attention.
The ministry also noted that Bugatchev had worked “with devotion and dedication” in support of the revolution. Kidnapping him, it said, would damage Libya’s efforts to build solid relations with the rest of the world and further frighten off foreign nationals working in the Libya health sector.
In the past few days, what little security existed in Benghazi has vanished altogether as militants bring terror to the city with a mass of assassinations. Ansar Al-Sharia and their allies are being blamed and it is thought that they are responding in fury to the fact that they have been unable to capture Benina airport. [/restrict]
