Tripoli, 26 February 2015:

A military solution in Libya would only further complicate matters and most likely lead to . . .[restrict]“mass migration” and increased terrorism, according to Tunisian Foreign Minister Tayeb Baccouche.

Baccouche, speaking in a joint press conference in Tunis today with Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, said that Tunisia rejected any military intervention.

Gentiloni, also, stressed that Libya must have a political solution, one based on dialogue and reconciliation, adding that there must be no partition of Libya.

“Italy is,” Gentiloni stated, “committed to support by any means the commitment of the UN envoy.” Yet Italian media has reported that Gentiloni said in an interview that the Italian government is preparing to suggest an Italian diplomat replace Leon Bernardino as UN envoy.

Meanwhile, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini said today that the EU stands ready to help Libya deal with terrorism and most especially, the Islamic State. Mogherini stressed, however, that the first step is for the dialogue process to move forward. [/restrict]
