Fourteen municipalities so far have decided to partner with UNICEF in a national campaign, “Together for Children”, to protect and empower Libya’s children.
According to UNICEF, the campaign specifically aims to provide psychosocial support for internally displaced children, child-friendly spaces, the prevention of school dropouts, the integration of school-based psychosocial activities, the non-involvement of children in the armed conflict and empowering young people and engaging their parents through local and community actions.
Thus far, Janzour, Benghazi, Beida, Abu Sleem, Qasr Ben Gashir, the Tawergha local council, Zintan, Suq Al-Khamis, West Zawia, Hay Andalus, Swani Beni Adam, Esbaia, Zuwara and Central Tripoli have all signed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with UNICEF to move forward with the campaign.
“The launch of the campaign with 14 municipalities will undoubtedly strengthen our work towards upholding children’s rights,” said UNICEF Special Representative to Libya Ghassan Khalil.
In May, UNICEF will hold a forum for additional municipalities that have expressed interest in taking part in “Together for Children”. [/restrict]
