Tripoli, 21 June 2015:

There has been a devastating airstrike on the IS headquarters in Sirte in which it . . .[restrict]is being claimed that at least 16 people died and dozens have been injured.

There are reports that IS fighters have taken over the town’s Ibn Sina hospital, presumably to allow for the emergency treatment of their wounded.

It is further being asserted that some 400 prisoners held by IS have escaped from the wreckage.

The attack is being claimed by Libya Dawn sources. The Libya Observer reported that the airstrike was  carried out  by Libya `dawn fighter aircraft on the former internal security building which IS had turned into their headquarters in the town.

The bulk of the fighter aircraft available to the Libya Dawn forces is from Misrata, where there is an air force college. Apart from knocking out the control tower at Zintan Airport, Misratan pilots have not, until now, been any more notable for their accuracy than the government air force.

The precision of the raid, coming days after the US attack on an Ajdabiya farm complex where wanted Algerian terrorist, Mokhtar Belmohktar was thought to be holding a meeting,  has impressed military observers.

There were completely unconfirmed social media reports this evening that foreign military advisers may have been in Misrata in recent days.

There is much that it is still unclear about the raid. Some of the pictures that purport to show the aftermath of the strike suggest that there were two separate explosions.
