Tunis Air has revealed that Libyan . . .[restrict]passengers transiting out via its airports are obliged to buy return tickets – forcing them to return to Libya via Tunisia.
The new stipulation was revealed by Libyan Airlines and comes on the back of the recent restart of direct flights from Libya to Tunisia. The news was confirmed by the manager of Tunis Air in Malta who was reported to have said that the new regulation was imposed without prior notice.
However, the Libya Herald has discovered that check-in staff have been attempting to get Libyan transit passengers flying on out of Tunisia to buy a return ticket for quite a while now.
One Libyan passenger, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed this and said that he had made such a fuss at the time, that the check-in staff, after a long bout of toing and froing, eventually allowed him to board his flight. He objected to the Tunisian authorities trying to force him to return to Libya from Europe via Tunisia.
The Tunis Air in Malta office manager was also reported as saying that a new list of barred Libyan passengers had also been issued by the Tunisian authorities which stop them from either entering or transiting via Tunisian airports.
