Tunis, 24 November 2015:

Moves for a Libyan alternative to the stalled Libya Dialogue process brokered by the UN . . .[restrict]continue to gather momentum.

Libyan mayors together with delegates from the House of Representatives (HoR) and the General National Congress (GNC) as well as from the National Council of Libyan Elders are to meet in the Jebel Nafusa town of Ghariyan, 90 kilometres south of Tripoli, on Thursday at the invitation of its mayor, Yusuf Ibdairi.

The aim of the meeting is to come up with proposals to get the country out if its current crisis.

“All Libyan mayors and municipalities have been invited,” said Sebha mayor Hamed Rafeh, who said he would be attending.

Separately, Jadu municipal council has proposed that a new legislature replacing both the HoR and the GNC be set up as its suggestion for a Libya-Libya dialogue. The new body would draw 100 member apiece from the two existing bodies.

A handful of members from both legislatures met earlier this month also to look into the idea of a purely Libyan answer to the crisis.

However, Muslim Brotherhood mentor Sheikh Ali Sallabi, in a separate suggestion as to what needs to happen now, has said that neither legislature should be involved in further talks to resolve the divide because neither were trusted by the public any longer. [/restrict]
