Tunis, 25 November 2015:
Following Tuesday’s suicide bomb attack in central Tunis in which 13 policemen died, Tunisia has closed . . .[restrict]the border with Libya as part of the state of emergency announced yesterday by President Beji Caid Essebsi. He announced the closure at a press conference today.
Lasting 15 days, it comes in effect at midnight tonight. However, as the state of emergency declared by Essebsi is 30 days, it could be prolonged.
There will also be increased patrols along the border.
The measures are among a series approved by the Tunisian High Council of National Security in the wake of the attack claimed by IS (Islamic state) terrorists. Others include the decision that anyone coming from Libya, as from Iraq and Syria, will be subject to special scrutiny. The status of all foreigners resident in the country is also to be evaluated.
