A group of 92 HoR ”majority” members declare their support for the UN-led GNA and oppose the ”minority” Tunis Libyan-Libyan initiative.

Tunis, 8 December 2015:

Ninety-two members of the House of Representatives (HoR) yesterday criticized the agreement made in Tunis two days . . .[restrict]ago between the ‘‘minority’’ members of the HoR and the GNC.

The 92 representing the majority in the HoR re-asserted their support for the political agreement brokered by the UN which had resulted in a proposed Government of National Accord (GNA).

In a statement dated 6 December, the 92 expressed their surprise at the launching of the so-called ‘‘Libyan-Libyan’’ dialogue proposed by the HoR president Ageela Saleh and a minority of HoR members.

In the statement, the 92 referred to this minority as ‘‘hardliners’’ from the HoR and GNC who the 92 say had been ‘‘overridden’’ by the political dialogue ‘’due to their refusal of its outcomes’’.

The block of 92 has also accused HoR president Ageela Salah of violating the internal regulation of the HoR as he had not proposed the Tunis Libyan-Libyan initiative within the HoR in advance.

With regards to the planned first-ever meeting between the HoR president Salah and GNC president Nuri Abu Sahmain, the group of 92 demanded that Salah remind Abu Sahmain of the following principles:

1-      To admit to the existence of terrorism (in Libya) and pledge to fighting it.

2-      To admit that what is happening in Benghazi is a war against terrorism undertaken by the Libyan army.

3-      To recognize that the military institution related to the HoR is a professional one and its legitimacy is unquestionable.

4-      To adhere to stopping the support of what is called Benghazi Revolutionaries Shura Council (BRSC) by all means politically, financially and militarily.

Although the statement attributed itself to 92 HoR members, there were no names or signatures attached to it. [/restrict]
