Tunis, 24 December 2015:

The UN’s Libya mediator Martin Kobler welcomed yesterday’s Security Council resolution on the Libyan Political . . .[restrict]Agreement saying that it was an important Step on the Road to Peace, Security and Prosperity. However, he added that there was hard work ahead.

Speaking yesterday Kobler said that ”Today’s resolution by the United Nations Security Council on Libya is a clear and unambiguous statement of support for the Libyan Political Agreement and the institutions emanating from it”.

”The international community is united for peace in Libya. Libyan political actors must redouble efforts to swiftly implement the Libyan Political Agreement signed on 17 December in Skhirat. The UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) looks forward to quickly engage with Libyan stakeholders in support of the future Government of National Accord”.

For those in opposition to the LPA Kobler said that ”The door is wide open for all those who still oppose the Libyan Political Agreement. All Libyans should play a role in the restarted Libyan transition. The opportunity to end the political and security crisis in Libya is now”.

”Today’s Security Council resolution is yet another affirmation of the readiness of the international community to support the Libyan Political Agreement and one united government for Libya. Uniting in support of the Government of National Accord will put Libya closer fulfilling the aspirations of the Libyan people for peace, security and prosperity”.

”This requires starting the hard work today to bring about a better life for all Libyans”, his statement concluded.
