It is reported that the Presidency Council which is meeting in Skhirat, Morocco, has agreed that . . .[restrict]in addition to its own nine members, the government will comprise twelve ministries to which those appointed will come from Libya’s three historic regions, but not equally. Five would come from from Tripolitania, four from Cyrenaica, and three from Fezzan. A further two ministries might also be appointed, it is said.
According to civil activist Mohamed Obied, Tripolitania would have the foreign, finance, planning, economy, and transportation ministries. Cyrenaica would get interior, education, justice, and labour and social affairs. Fezzan would have the defence, health and local government.
The two possible extra ministries would be oil and youth. The former would go to Cyrenaica, the latter to Tripoli.
The Council started working on the plan yesterday, Thursday, following a demand from the House of Representatives (HoR) that it reduce the size of the cabinet when it rejected the earlier proposal of a 32-ministry government.
The Council had taken the view that because the letter rejecting the former offer and giving it ten days to come up with a new proposal was dated 31 January, it had until 10 February to decide. However, the HoR wants the list by Sunday at the latest. It plans to debate the new offer on Monday. [/restrict]
