Tripoli, 25 February 2016:

The confessions of the new Islamic State leaders for Sabratha who were arrested in Tripoli yesterday has provided some further insight into the organisation.

According to the Special Deterrence Force (Rada) which captured them in the capital’s eastern suburb of Tajoura, Mohamed Saad Tajuri (alias “Abu Suliman”), the new leader in Sabratha, is from Derna. He says he went to Iraq in 2003. When he returned to Libya he was arrested and jailed in Tripoli by Qaddafi regime for almost seven years until freed in August 2011. He returned to Derna for a while and then he went to Sirte when IS started growing in strength there. He remained, pledging loyalty to the IS. There he met its ”emir” of Tripoli region, Ahmed Saleh Al-Hamali (alias “Abu Abdullah”), “who assigned me to be governor of Sabratha”.

Salem Abdulsalam Ammari, who was supposed to be the deputy IS governmor of Sabratha, says he was born in 1986 in Sirte. He is joined the IS organisation in the middle of 2014. He did not do have much to do apart from some minor responsibilities until Al-Hamali apponted him as deputy leader in Sabratha. His job there was to manage the administration. He confirmed that main IS figure in Sirte and the representative of the organsiation’s “caliph”, Abubakr Al-Baghdadi, was Abu Amer Al-Jazrawi, from Saudi Arabia. “I just met him one and he was covering his face.
