Algerian troops are reported to have found a tunnel beneath the Libyan border near Ghadames which . . .[restrict]they are claiming has been used to smuggle in weapons and terrorists from Libya.
The discovery appears to be connected with a running battle between Algerian forces and fighters who had apparently infiltrated the border from Libya in three four-wheel-drive vehicles. In the fighting one vehicle was brought to a halt but the others managed to drive off.
The Algerian army has given no details of casualties nor said if it has taken any prisoners. Algerian state media are however reporting that the suspects were still being hunted this evening. [/restrict]
