In the first quarter of this year, 49 . . .[restrict]civilians, including 12 children, have been killed in violence throughout Libya. There were also 42 people injured, some of them seriously,
In addition, according to figures released today by UNSMIL, there have been 25 executions so far this year, 18 of which were carried out in March. UNSMIL said these included eight executions of alleged IS suspects by the Derna Mujahideen Shoura Council, five murders by IS in Sirte and the abduction and kidnap of six men from outside Zawia by an armed group from Warshefana.
In addition to all of these deaths, there was the mass slaughter in January of 63 members of the Libyan Coastgard at Zliten.
As usual UNSMIL said that it had cross-checked its data with a range of sources and where possible reviewed medical records, forensic reports and photographic evidence. The death toll may not therefore be exhaustive, since UNSMIL may have found insufficient evidence to confirm a killing. [/restrict]
