Spain’s foreign minister, Jose Garcia-Margallo, has become the latest foreign politician to visit Tripoli and . . .[restrict]show international backing for the Presidency Council and the proposed Government of National Accord.
In the past month there have been visits by the Italian, French, German British, Algerian and Turkish foreign ministers, all similarly designed to reassure the Presidency of their support but also to demonstrate it to the Libyan public.
Spanish investment in Libya figured strongly in today’s talks between the Spanish minister and the head of the Presidency Council, Faiez Serraj, in particular the return to work by the Spanish oil company Repsol. It was resume operations as soon as the security situation permitted it, Garcia-Margallo promised Serraj.
The Spanish ambassador to Libya, currently based in Tunis, Jose Antonio Huidobro, also visited Tripoli a fornight ago.
