Benghazi/Tripoli, 15 April 2016:

A group of fans from Benghazi are reported to have been seized in . . .[restrict]Tripoli after attending the final of the national volleyball championship today.

The fans, variously put at either four or five, had travelled to Tripoli to see their team Ahly compete against Misrata’s Swehli team.  They are said to include Ahmed Karghali, known as “the Pharaoh” who is the acknowledged leader of the club’s supporters.

According to an Ahly club official, they were grabbed afterwards by a Benghazi Islamist militia commander known as Abu Azam.  Like many Benghazi militant leaders, he had left the city. However, other reports say that he and those with him were arrested and charged with causing riots but that they would be released on bail tomorrow.
