A mother travelling from Tripoli’s Mitiga airport to Labraq went through agonies yesterday when her young . . .[restrict]son disappeared at the airport. She was sure he had been kidnapped. In fact he had decided to do a little exploring – and ended up in Sfax in Tunisia.
Four year-old Abdulfattah Al-Awami was supposed to be going to Labraq but while waiting for the plane wandered off to see what he could find. Somehow, the adventurous toddler managed to get on a Libyan Airlines flight to Sfax without security or airline staff noticing. It was only when he arrived in Sfax that it was discovered that he should not have been on the plane. He was flown back to Mitiga to be delivered into the arms of his desperately worried but finally much relieved mother.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Mitiga Airport has admitted to “complacency” by its staff. It also asked parents to take more care of their children in the airport.
Abdulfattah’s parents are likely to take that message to heart, and probably not just at airports. [/restrict]
