Tripoli, 25 May 2016:

Moving up and down the Middle East in just four days, Presidency Council head Faiez Serraj . . .[restrict]arrived today in Qatar after successive visits to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.

In Doha, he met with the Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and, according to both the Presidency Council media office and the Qatar News Agency, briefed the emir on the latest developments in Libya, notably the efforts to establish security and stability, and the need to ensure that Libya remains united.

Serraj also expressed his belief in Qatar’s important role in helping create stability in the country. He asked it to help Libya obtain arms to fight terrorism and regain control of frozen funds.

Qatar was previously seen as a firm supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood and of the General National Congress regime in Tripoli while opposed to the House of Representatives and the Thinni government it appointed.

For his part, the emir expressed Qatar’s support for the Presidency Council and the Government of National Accord.

Yesterday, before leaving Istanbul, Serraj met with Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan at which Turkish involvement in Libya’s reconstruction and the return of Turkish Airlines to Libya were discussed, according to the Serraj’s media office.

The media office also said that Erdogan announced that he would shortly visit Tripoli.

While in Istanbul, Serraj took time to visit soliders wounded in the fight against the so-called Islamic state who are being treated in Turkey.

Picture of the visit, however, have not gone down well in the east of the country where it is being claimed that when he recently was in Cairo he did not visit soldiers wounded fighting militants in Benghazi.
