Tripoli, 26 May 2016:
The murder trial in Tripoli of Saadi Qaddafi, the late dictator’s playboy son, was today . . .[restrict]adjourned for a sixth time. Saadi was brought to the special court room in Hadba prison where he and other former top regime figures are being held, to be told that the case will resume on 12 July.
The last adjournment in April was requested by Saadi’s lawyers to study fresh evidence produced by the prosecution since its own request for an adjournment last December to better prepare its case. The reasons for this latest postponement of the trial were not made clear, though the judges may not have wanted the case to run in to Ramadan.
Among the charges against Saadi are that in March 2006 he murdered Ittihad Tripoli football team coach, Bashir Al-Rayani. He has also been accused of war crimes during the Revolution, false imprisonment and drinking alcohol.
