Tunis, 11 June 2016:

The spokesman for the Bunyan Marsous Operations Room, Brigadier Mohamed Al-Ghasri, has joined his fellow Misratan, . . .[restrict]State Council President Andulrahman Sewehli, in condemning Libya’s UN ambassador Ibrahim Dabbashi over comments made to the UN in New York about the Sirte operation.

Last Tuesday, Dabbashi said that the notion of “forces controlled by the Government of National Accord” was unrealistic because the fighters operated outside state control. Unless armed groups signed a binding commitment to disarm and agreed to join state institutions, he said, they could threaten the GNA.

He also said that once the so-called Islamic State (IS) was removed from Sirte, the town might end up being taken over by Ansar Al-Sharia.

According to Press Solidarity, Ghasri told it that Dabbashi’s comments had infuriated his men and he called on the Presidency Council to take action against him.

Ghasri added that he did not think that other countries would take Dabbashi seriously. Nonethless, he rounded on him, accusing him of effectively supporting IS.

Three days ago, Sewehli also demanded the Presidency Council sack Dabbashi for his comments. [/restrict]
