Eighteen new US airstrikes against ISIS in Sirte bring total to 128

The US Africa Command (Africom) has revealed that it had conducted its 128th airstrike against IS in Sirte (Africom).

London, 8 September 2016:

The United States’ Africa Command has reported that it has carried out a further 18 new airstrikes against ISIS in Sirte between 2-6 September.

These latest reported strikes bring the total of airstrikes in Sirte to 128 since Operation Odyssey Lightning commenced on 1st August this year, Africom reports.

Airstrikes conducted on 2 September:

  2. One enemy fighting position
  3. Three enemy fighting positions
  4. One enemy fighting position
  5. One enemy fighting position
  6. One enemy fighting position

4 September:

  1. One enemy fighting position

  4. One enemy fighting position

5 September

  2. One Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device
  3. Three enemy fighting positions

These latest airstrikes came as U.S. Defence Secretary, Ash Carter, was reported as saying on Wednesday that the U.S.-backed Libyan Bunyan Marsous forces, affiliated to the internationally recognized and Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council/Government of National Accord, are close to vanquishing Islamic State from its last holdouts in Sirte.
