Tripoli, 15 September 2016:

UN Special Envoy Martin Kobler flew to Misrata today for discussions with local officials on ways to break the current political deadlock between those supporting the Presidency Council and those backing Khalifa Hafter and the Libyan National Army.

There were talks with the municipal council, with Misrata’s members of the House of Representatives (HoR) and with the head of the State Council, Abdulrahman Sewehli, whom he praised for his commitment to the Libyan Political Agreement and to dialogue.

Kobler also visited the central hospital while in the city and later tweeted that funding for the unfinished buildings, as well as for other medical facilities in the country had to be found. He also went walkabout to meet ordinary Misratans and further tweeted that it had been a “great visit, always impressed by the organised city and welcoming community”.

Kobler was reportedly due to fly on to Cairo to attend meeting between PC head Faiez Serrah and HoR president Ageela Saleh.
