Tunis, 3 July 2017:

The German ambassador believes House of Representatives (HoR) president Ageela Saleh has a central role to play in Libya, the Tobruk-based parliament claimed today.

Christian Buck  flew into Tobruk this morning and said Germany and the wider international community could only support compromises based on the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA). This was the way forward he said.

This is in line with recent comments made by Germany’s foreign minister, Sigmar Gabriel, that the LPA had to be put into place and Libya’s “deeply divided forces” needed to make a settlement and hold serious talks.

HoR spokesman Abdullah Blahak said the meeting focused on ways to break through the political stalemate. He said Buck emphasised Germany wanted to hear all the various viewpoints from the factions running around Libya.
