Benghazi, 12 September 2017:
A landmine in Benghazi’s Sabri district has injured two people, as Libyan National Army (LNA) engineers struggle to deal with the mass of explosives that still litter the city’s former war zones.
Today a 45 year-old man and his ten year-old son were hit by shrapnel when a landmine detonated near them. The Benghazi Medical Centre was reported as saying that both victims were in a stable condition.
Despite warnings to keep out of the Sabri, civilians continue to return to their homes, if only to salvage some of their belongings.
Meanwhile the violent stand-off continues between militants and the LNA in a few buildings in Sabri’s Sidi Akribesh quarter.
