Tunis, 12 November 2017:

The interim government prime minister Abdullah Al-Thinni today chaired the initial meeting of the Benghazi reconstruction authority set up last week by the president of the House of Representatives, Ageela Saleh. It was held in Marj.

According to sources close to Thinni’s administration, the meeting should have taken place two days ago but was delayed by the events surrounding the assassination attempts in Benghazi on the Presidency Council’s deputy interior minister, Faraj Al-Gaem.

Ensuring services to Benghazi residents, especially medical services, was the main topic of today’s meeting, along with support for displaced people currently resident in the city, particularly from Tawergha. A number of technical reports about specific conditions in Benghazi were also submitted.

Despite the fact that the Thinni government lacks the resources to undertake the reconstruction of Benghazi, it is reported that instructions were issued to the parallel, eastern-based version of the Central Bank of Libya to facilitate solutions to problems in the city.

The meeting brought together all those appointed to the reconstruction committee appointed by House of Representatives president Ageela Saleh.

Apart from Thinni, these were Major-General Abdul Razzaq Al-Nazhuri, eastern central bank governor Ali Hebri and acting Benghazi mayor Abdulraman Elabbar. Also present was Khaled Najem, the head of the Beida government’s media and culture authority.
