London, 28 May 2018:

The Tripoli Security Directorate denied on Saturday widely-circulating social media reports that the headquarters of the Faiez Serraj-led Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord (the Prime Minister’s Office) had been surrounded by militias.

Social Media reports had said that Tripoli Revolutionaries Brigade personnel had taken over positions at the Tripoli Prime Minister’s Office, forcing the usual official security forces to abandon their positions.

In a statement published on its official Facebook page, the Tripoli Security Directorate maintained that the official security services of the Presidency Council were the Tripoli Directorate, the General Administration of Central Security and the Special Operations Force, confirming that they continued to secure the Presidential Council’s official office.

Social media reports had also claimed that militias, usually aligned to Faiez Serraj and his Presidency Council/Government of National Accord (PC/GNA), had also taken over positions from the Presidential Guard at the under-construction Tripoli International Airport.

At the time of writing there was no comment from the PC/GNA.
