Libya’s Housing and Infrastructure Board (HIB) is organising a real estate forum in Tunis this month.

London, 7 October 2018:

Libya’s Housing and Infrastructure Board (HIB), the Libyan state’s main house-building entity, has announced that it is to hold a forum in Tunis.

In 2013 the HIB, which is part of the Serraj-aligned Ministry of Housing and Utilities, had reported that it oversaw projects totalling LD 50 bn. It is estimated that it is overseeing the implementation of 40 percent of planned housing projects amounting to about 220,000 housing units.

The first Real Estate Development Forum will be held on 17 and 18 October at the Tunis LAICO hotel. LAICO is owned by the Libyan Investment Authority, Libya’s main sovereign investment entity.

The HIB said that the Tunis event will be attended by ministers, the relevant heads of departments, experts in the field as well as foreign and Libyan business leaders.

It said that the aim of the event was to seek new concepts and visions to incentivize the Libyan real estate market in general.

It also said that it hopes to attract the private sector into investing in the sector through the activation and development of a series of regulations and laws that protect the rights and duties of owners, developers and investors.

Commenting on the Tunis event, JOB chairman Mahmoud Ajaj said that the HIB will offer the opportunity for both private and public companies to invest or develop thousands of Libya’s housing units.
