Coronavirus cases continue to rise in Libya

(NCDC).

London, 30 June 2020:

Libya’s Coronavirus cases have continued to rise over the last four days from 698 to 802 positive cases, according to figures reported by the country’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

There are now 206 recovered cases and a total of 23 deaths. Libya’s cases contrast with those of its neighbour Tunisia which has been able to control the spread of the virus to the extent that it was able to reopened its air, sea and land borders to the EU on Saturday 27 June..

It is reported that Tunisia’s National Observatory for New and Emerging Diseases will determine the epidemiological situation in the various countries that have ended the general lockdown period and announced the opening of their borders, on the basis of internationally agreed scientific and epidemiological criteria. It will be interesting to see if Tunisia makes a purely ‘‘scientific’’ decision on allowing Libyans in or if economic needs will prevail.
