London, 12 November 2020:

The Zliten desalination plant expansion project is fully completed and awaiting implementation, Zliten Municipality reported yesterday.

The expansion project will take production capacity to about 20,000 cubic meters of water per day, and the project’s implementation period is expected to be 18 months.

The Municipality reported that the expansion procedures had been referred to the Tripoli-based Libyan government in November 2019 to complete the contracting and awarding process and provide the requirements of the implementing company.

The Municipality said production capacity of the current desalination plant is about seven thousand cubic meters per day after the stabilization and return of electricity supply.

It explained that some of the units in the plant are out of service due to their old age.
