London, 11 December 2020:

UNSMIL reported today that its Acting head, Stephanie Williams, held a consultative virtual meeting yesterday for the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) to hear participants’ views and suggestions on the most appropriate and more consensual way forward in the process of selecting the executive branch for the preparatory period of the elections, as stated in the roadmap approved by the members of the LPDF Tunis meeting last November.

“Today, I have heard many of you stress the need to move forward, and this is very positive,” said Williams, adding that it is up to the Libyans themselves to take advantage of this opportunity to make tangible progress that will bring hope back to the Libyan people in the current political process.

UNSMIL’s reported that based on its commitment to providing equal opportunities for all members of the LPDF, UNSMIL will reach out to all members who were unable to participate in this meeting to question their views on the most appropriate and consensual way to choose a mechanism for selecting the executive so as to move on to the next step in the implementation of the road map.
