London, 18 February 2021:

Libya’s prime minister designate of the new Government of National Unity (GNU), Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, met Egypt’s Abdel Fattah Sisi in Cairo today. Egypt’s prime minister, Mostafa Madbouly, and Abbas Kamel, head of the Egyptian General Intelligence, were also at the meeting.

Aldabaiba’s media department informed Libya Herald that Libya’s prime minister designate told his host that he valued Egypt’s role in supporting the UNSMIL-brokered Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) through all means, including hosting important meetings of the Libyan dialogue tracks that bore fruit and positive results.

Aldabaiba also value Egypt’s keenness for the safety of the Libyan people and their territorial integrity, and the new Libyan political authority’s aspiration to build strategic relations with Egypt in all fields, especially energy, integrated development, and infrastructure, in which Egypt has made great strides over the past years.

The Egyptian President also stressed Egypt’s keenness to continue supporting the Libyan government and people until it achieves complete stability at all levels.

At the end of the meeting, Aldabaiba reviewed the efforts that his government will make to lead the next transitional phase, in which it will be keen to adopt a positive international policy with all friendly and brotherly countries for cooperation in a way that achieves the common interest, enhances the stability of Libya, and achieves the development that the Libyan people aspire to.
