GNU embarrassed into withdrawing its unoriginal emblem, unveils new one – criticised for being patriarchist

London, 28 February 2021:

The new designated Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) led by Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba was forced yesterday to withdraw its official emblem and quickly replace it with a new one. His government was also accused of being patriarchist.

The GNU had revealed its official emblem on Thursday during a live press conference. However, within hours social media had exposed it as an unoriginal rip-off of an existing emblem available on the world wide web.

It will be recalled that the GNU had announced an open competition to design the emblem for a prize of LD 5,000. The winning emblem of the competition had been revealed Thursday.

The GNU also came in for much social media criticism after, in response to a question from the media last Thursday, Aldabaiba said that there were no women put forward by the regions for his cabinet.
