London, 30 March 2021:

Libya’s General Union of Chambers of Commerce launched an initiative to support the Libyan private sector, with support from the European Union. The project is funded by the EU and the French Government.

The Chamber signed a partnership and cooperation agreement with Supernova and the Europe Foundation for Business and Strategy.

The Chamber reported last Thursday that the initiative aims to integrate more than 500 young militiamen into the labour market after they have received accredited training courses in various professional and vocational fields.

There was also a visit on Wednesday (24 March) to the city of Zintan in order to coordinate with the Municipal Council and assess the needs of the trainees there.

Mustafa Al-Barouni, Dean of Zintan Municipality, said: “We highly appreciate the role of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce in supporting entrepreneurs and owners of small and medium enterprises, and we are ready to cooperate to make the project a success.”

The Chamber said that the project will be a continuous one to support young people in many Libyan cities, especially those who were on the front lines.
