London, 25 March 2021:

U.S. Ambassador Norland said yesterday that continued political progress in Libya can lead to new U.S. and international investment. His statement was issued after new Libyan prime minister Adb Alhamid Aldabaiba had held a virtual meeting with U.S. businesses.

“Many thanks to Prime Minister Dabaiba for meeting with American businesses today at a virtual event hosted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Libya (AmCham Libya).

The United States looks forward to working with the Prime Minister and GNU Special Envoy to the United States Mohammed Ali Abdallah on ways to increase the contribution U.S. investment can make to improving the lives of Libyans.

The United States recognizes the importance of diversifying the Libyan economy. Participants were encouraged to hear the Prime Minister’s commitment to making Libya an attractive destination for foreign investment, recognizing this will require stability and an enabling business environment. A sustained commitment to the political process culminating in elections on Dec. 24, 2021 is an essential path to improving Libya’s investment climate.”
