London, 16 April 2021:

Parliamentary (House of Representatives – HoR) sources have stated that the 2021 budget referred to it for approval contained many errors and attracted many comments and enquiries from parliamentarians.

They errors had to be corrected by the relevant authorities of the government and the HoR. The budget will be presented in the parliamentary session next Monday in Tobruk.

The HoR sources say the delay in it endorsing the 2021 budget law was mainly due to changing the budget from the one prepared by the outgoing Faiez Serraj Government of National Accord (GNA) to suite the new Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba-led Government of National Unity (GNU) and its increased number of its ministries.

However, critics say that the HoR may have been using the budget to pressure Aldabaiba into making concessions, including on the appointment of his Deputy Ministers.
