London, 4 June 2021:

Libya’s Minister of Finance, Khaled Mabrouk, and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Imran Al-Geeb, met Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and Personal Envoy of President Putin for the Middle East and North Africa on the side-lines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg, Russia yesterday.

The Libyan Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research reported that the meeting discussed:

  • Granting Libya a number of chairs in Russian universities, especially in the field of ophthalmology and orthopaedics, as Russia is one of the leading countries in this field.
  • Training Libyan elements in the advanced Russian centres, especially in the fields of ophthalmology and orthopaedics.
  • Facilitating visa and residency procedures for Libyan students in the Russian arena.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to translate these points into a pragmatic manner during the coming period, because of their importance in strengthening relations between the two friendly peoples who are linked by historical relations based on respect and tolerance, the Ministry stated.
