NOC and GECOL discuss gas supplies to power stations and future renewable energy generation

National Oil Corporation (NOC) chairman Mustafa Sanalla met Wiam Al-Abdali, Chairman of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) yesterday at the NOC headquarters.
The two discussed current and future ways of integration and cooperation between the two entities and the start of the trend towards renewable and clean energies to generate electric power.
Gas supplies to power stations
On gas supplies, Sanalla explained that one of NOC’s priorities is to provide adequate gas to the local market, especially to GECOL’s power stations, and that the quantities currently available meet GECOL’s needs.
Need development budget for Hamada and Atshan gas fields
The discussion also dealt with GECOL’s future plans and the expansion programmes in the short and long term, and their future needs. Sanalla explained that the NOC is working on development plans for some gas fields (Hamada and Atshan) and will finish them in the coming months – subject to receiving the needed development budgets.
Future renewable and clean electric generation
The two sides also discussed ways to go to renewable and clean energies to generate electric power, and the NOC offered GECOL to help and to coordinate with its partners in this field and work together in order to reach this goal and reduce carbon emissions.
