The Customs Authority reported today that it had handed over to the Libyan Tunisia Ras Ajdir border crossing what it referred to as ‘‘the first American-made automatic inspection vehicle that operates with (L3) technology, the first in the world that has the advantage of direct linkage’’.
The mobile scanning and inspection vehicle is able to search for narcotics, weapons, nuclear material, undeclared goods, and other contraband at ports of entry, border crossings, military facilities, and other checkpoints.
The Customs Authority reported that a representative of I&SI company had confirmed that an American technical team will arrive in Tripoli to activate the vehicle within a maximum period of 14 days, and to install 4 electronic checkpoints at the border crossing within a maximum period of 25 days.
It also reported that it is the first and only one in North Africa and was contracted for in 2013.
