Libya’s incumbent caretaker Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba announced today that he has instructed the Ministry of Defence to expedite the development of a comprehensive plan to remove armed camps from the centre of Tripoli. Aldabaiba also holds the post of Defence Minister.

During a pre-recorded speech televised this evening, Aldabaiba said he had given direct instructions to remove the security headquarters from the Tripoli (former Lido) resort area and turn it into a public beach and return the radio building on Nasr Street to the media sector.

Both these sites had been occupied by militias opposed to Aldabaiba and in support of his rival for the post of PM, Fathi Bashagha.

In his speech Aldabaiba also claimed that attack on Tripoli has ended irreversibly and so has the plan to extend the rule of another interim government by the Ageela Saleh, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the High State Council and Khalifa Hafter.
