Zliten Food Fair opens with aim of developing local private sector, PPP and attaining food security

The Second Zliten Food Fair opened in the city of Zliten yesterday (1 to 4 February) with the aim of helping develop the local private sector, PPP and attaining national food security.

Several companies in the manufacture and import of food related materials from inside and outside the city participated.

The opening ceremony was attended by the head of Zliten Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, Mohamed Abu Miteb, representatives of some government agencies and official state institutions, and participating companies and factory owners.

The exhibition offered significant reductions in food prices, prizes and gifts for visitors.

Supporting PPP
Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, Awad Hamza, Director General of Zliten Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, said that the food fair is held within the framework of the Chamber of Commerce’s endeavour to develop and activate partnerships between the public and private sectors (PPP) and support the national economy, under the slogan ‘‘Towards Promising Economic Development’’.

He said the event is being held for the second time in Zliten to encourage the private sector by providing all possible means for it and removing all obstacles in front of it to achieve growth and prosperity, and to emphasize the role of this sector in preserving national food security.

Zliten has several huge industrial complexes
He stressed the participation of many local companies specialized in the field of food industries of various kinds from within the city of Zliten, in which there are several huge industrial complexes specialized in the manufacture of flour and its derivatives, vegetable oils, milk, rice mills, packaging factories, dates and its products, olive oil and honey.

Exhibitions are good marketing tools
Considering that this exhibition opens the way for investors to display their products to the public and to introduce their industrial establishments and brands directly, which saves a lot of time and effort spent through other less effective means in product marketing and promotion. “Exhibitions are the best way to advertise and market any product,” he said.

Zliten’s comprehensive plan to develop the private sector
Pointing out that there is a comprehensive plan to develop the private sector within the municipality of Zliten and support small and medium enterprises, especially youth projects, through networking between them and businessmen looking for new investment opportunities.

In conclusion, he said “Zliten is a city that has all the necessary ingredients to be a leading city in all industries, as it currently has more than one cement factory, an iron factory, several factories for fodder, flour and its derivatives, and others for packing vegetable oils. There are tens of thousands of olive trees and palm trees, which produced thousands of tons of dates this year, and the olive oil production will set a record this year’’.
