The Public Prosecution’s Office announced yesterday that the chairman of Akakus Oil Operations, Isam Al-Bishty, has been remanded in custody for corruption charges.
Al-Bishty is accused of abusing the authority entrusted in him and the acquisition of material benefits by others in violation of legislation with regards to a catering contract valued at LD 12 million.
The Prosecutor’s Office said investigations show that the contract is overvalued compared to other submitted offers.
He is also accused of disposing of LD 500,000 ‘‘without the availability of an objective reason that legitimised this behaviour’’.
