The Minister of Agriculture and Livestock, Abdel Latif Al-Taher, participated in the Zero Waste International Forum held in Istanbul, Turkey, last Friday (5 June).

The forum is considered one of the most prominent global gatherings dedicated to reshaping the relationship between humans, resources, consumption patterns, and environmental protection.

Food Security
In his address at the forum, the Minister emphasised that food security is one of the most significant challenges facing the world today. He pointed out that post-production losses and agricultural waste place a direct burden on national economies and food supply chains.

He explained that the Tripoli based Libyan government prioritises food security within its policies by supporting local production, improving the efficiency of supply chains, and reducing agricultural losses. This contributes to enhancing resource sustainability and achieving safe and stable food for citizens.

The forum, organized by the Zero Waste Foundation, brings together a wide range of world leaders, decision-makers, innovators, local authorities, and civil society representatives. Its aim is to advance international efforts to reduce waste and achieve a sustainable, waste-free future, particularly from food loss.

More than 5,000 high-level figures from more than 180 countries participated in this event, including more than 120 ministers and about 200 mayors, in addition to representatives of international organizations, experts, academics, private sector actors and environmental organizations.
