Following the attack by allegedly pro-Qaddafi supporters on the Italian war graves cemetery in central . . .[restrict]Tripoli on Saturday evening, the cemetery was the subject of another attack last night leading to the death of a guard.
On this occasion, the attackers managed to enter the cemetery late at night unnoticed by the guards at the guard room and were able to burn the guard’s car and cause some damage to some graves.
The exact circumstances which led to the guard’s death are still unclear. It was initially reported that there were no fatalities, but there was damage to a car and graves.
After Saturday’s attack, the Libyan authorities had sent police to guard the cemetery, but despite this, it seems the attackers were able last night to carry out their raid on the cemetery.
It will be recalled that this attack on Italian graves comes after two Italian workers in a construction company went missing on Friday between Martuba and Derna in eastern Libya.
Informed sources told Libya Herald today that there was no new news on the two missing Italians. [/restrict]
