London, 2 June 2021:

Libya desires to strengthen and develop relations with Algeria in various fields and at all levels, Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba said on Sunday during his visit to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune in Algiers.

Aldabaiba, leading a Ministerial delegation, stressed the importance of enhancing security cooperation, combating cross-border crime and combating terrorism. He also expressed Libya’s desire to strengthen and develop its relations with Algeria in various fields and at all levels, in order to achieve comprehensive development and to confront negative interference in the region.

The Prime Minister appreciated Algeria’s hosting of the Libyan-Algerian Forum, which he said will contribute to raising trade exchange and exchanging experiences, and to advancing the private sector to contribute to diversifying sources of income.

He also thanked Algeria and the Algerian staff who supported the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) in the maintenance and operation of the Khoms emergency station, and explained that this cooperation in the field of energy calls for its deepening by activating the agreements for the production and transmission of electric power.

In turn, the President of the Republic of Algeria affirmed his country’s continued support for national reconciliation in Libya and stressed his readiness to open the door for the resumption of flights to and from Libya, the opening of land borders for commercial exchange and the transport of goods, and the expediting of their opening for travellers after assessing the security situation.

He also pointed out the possibility of cooperation in the health field and supporting its cadres with specialized medical and auxiliary elements.

The President also expressed its willingness to provide technical support to assist Libya’s Ministry of Interior in supporting the plan to secure the upcoming electoral process.

The two sides also agreed on the return of Sonatrach to resume work in the field of oil exploration in the Ghadames Basin.
