London, 29 September 2021:

The Ministry of Economy and Trade discussed in a meeting on Monday at the Privatization and Investment Board (PIB) plans to activate the Elmreisa (EFZ) and Kufra free zones.

The meeting included the Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade for Free Zones, Nouri Mohamed, the head of the PIB Jamal Al-Nuwesri, representatives of EFZ and Deputy Mayor of Kufra.

The attendees discussed the plan to activate and employ free zones to localize industries and achieve spatial development. During the meeting, the work plan of the Kufra Municipal Council was reviewed in establishing the Kufra Free Zone and activating transit trade with the aim of stimulating the industrial and agricultural sectors in the region.

The meeting stressed that the establishment and activation of free zones in all parts of the country contributes to revitalizing transit trade, stimulating the industrial and agricultural sectors, improving the level of services in cities and areas within their scope, and raising the rate of domestic product for non-oil exports.

It was highlighted that the government, through the activation of free zones, aims to improve the trade environment and create real investment opportunities that contribute to the development of the national economy and the advancement of local industry.
