Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported yesterday that work is under way to install solar systems to provide electricity for several institutions. The projects are sponsored by France’s Total Energies and are being installed at the following institutions:

– Ben Jawad General Hospital

– Faculty of Energy Technologies at Jkhira

– Faculty of Engineering and Oil at Jalu

– Tsawa Hospital in the Ataba valley for the operation of the medical oxygen plant

The NOC said that the generation of electricity from renewable and clean energies is one of its most important objectives over the coming years.

This it added, is for the purpose of promoting awareness among the public of the importance of using renewable energies and contributing to preserving the environment and reducing emissions.

It also added that this emphasizes the direction of the NOC and its partners in the use of clean energies, to generate electricity and take advantage of Libya’s distinctive location in the use of solar energy as a substitute for fossil fuels.

It is noteworthy that previously the NOC installed solar systems in several hospitals in Rajban, Zintan and Ubari General Hospital, sponsored by Spain’s Repsol.

The NOC said it hopes to expand in this field and gradually replace other energy sources in its oil sites and fields. It also hopes to contribute to support specialized educational centres in this field, to form young and qualified national cadres, to engage in this promising field and invest in clean and renewable energies.
