Various brass bands set off to Martyr Square.
A flame was lit in Martyr Square in celebration.
Folk music bands performed in Martyr Square.
There was a family atmosphere.

Lights, fireworks and the Independence flag featured prominently. Libya's daily power cuts were forgotten as the city centre and Martyr Square were lit up. The roads, and especially the coastal road, were bumper to bumper.
