London, 19 August 2021:

The top advisers on renewable energies to Prime Minister Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba met at the Prime Ministry on Tuesday with the head of the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL), Hamid Sherwali and his team, to discuss the goals of the current government in renewables.

REAoL reported that the discussions centred around its proposal to implement projects totalling 2,000 MW using photovoltaic technology in stages over the coming years. These projects will use PPP investment mechanisms but there will also be some projects implemented by the state sector through direct contracting to achieve some urgent demands.

The difficulties and obstacles facing the implementation of renewable energy projects were also addressed, and REAoL requested government support in preventing the interference of authorities and institutions working in similar activities from exceeding their scope of work.

REAoL reported that the meeting ended with agreement on specific measures that support it and the energy sector in general.
